Interestingly, the lovely fandom folks of Real Person tv shows (primarily the 2nd half of the poll) are of a higher age group-- and have widely different reasonings for almost everything as opposed to the anime fans (the 1st half)...do you think it's their ages that change the answers, or their interests?

Also, this time around, more people went into interesting discussion-- rather than just leaving the poll be, we started chatting about the various good points of show/book X, and other readers of the posts took the conversation to amazing tangents-- much fun.

Why do you participate in fandom?

Because I love the characters, and wish for more background (even though it's not completely true).
Japanese aritists hold my attention more than American artists.
The characters of FMA are very "real" in that they have multifacted psyches, and they feel like they have whole lives that go on even when Ed and Al aren't around.
Because where else would I look for other people who are learning Mando'a?
Because I like it and I wanna read/view fanwork and support the fandom.
i love it :)
Because I love that particular anime/manga
Because I love imagining different scenarios not explored in the text.
I like the stories.
fandom is the ultimate indie art community. plus, free reading material!
Because it's a way to share my creative vibes
Why would someone read a good book, or look at good art? It's the same reason, but the works in question build off other people's worlds.

It's something that starts off as just being "interesting" but after being in fandom long enough, it becomes something that can consume your mind and soul.

I don't want to leave this 'world' behind. JKR didn't write enough, and some fanfics are amazingly good with the characterizations.
In real life, I know perhaps one or two people who have a smidgen of the same interest in something I do.

I'm not sure really... the first fic I ever read was yaoi, so I think it just went on from there. I hadn't thought about it before reading the fic (which was sent to me by a friend I trust on these matters), but boy am I glad I did!

Because I feel that there is a very strong gay subtext between Harry and Draco in the canon, and it's interesting to see how writers in the fandom expand upon it. Also, for me it's not a gender thing, it's about OTP :) Canon Ginny and Harry's interaction reads as fake. His (again, still canon) interaction with Draco, on the otherhand, is always very intense and feels more geniune.

autoimmune disorder

So. Three hospitalizations, 15 pounds, a surgery and a as&*df@$ of money later, the doctors think I have an autoimmune disorder. Or something. Some sort of genetic disorder that means the rest of my life will be very different. Except maybe I'll feel better (finally!! Three months of severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, etc etc sucks so bad).

So. Let's just hope it's curable. Or maintainable.

Since I don't really post much about Naruto...

I don't remember why I first started watching Naruto, or why I like Naruto at all...

I like Sasuke. I think I have a fic rec a post down, so please look there to see examples of the fiction I like.

As for art, I like all sorts of things. I adore crisp lines. I love black, and how ink can be used to do SO many different affects...like in doujinshi. I adore hissatsu cyclone-- webpage is here. Great artist. They have a lot of work under the gallery section for some examples.

Story-telling peice.
zejeni "will you stay" on deviantArt. I like this peice because of the lovely, soft coloring. I also adore that there's some MOVEMENT in this picture...the figures arent' just staring at the camera, they've got their arms moving. It's easy to come up with a story going along with their motions.

Cute style:
k-tiraam "Morning" on deviantArt. I like this picture for a lot of reasons...mostly 'cause it's adorable. Sooo cute. Also, the lines are nice and crisp! And the coloring is smooth and wonderful...no inconsistencies. Also, besides being adorable, this picture has a background. Backgrounds are almost always necessary for a good picture! And this one is pretty good-- it doesn't distract from the figure in the foreground.

Yes, some people still use real paper and other medians. ^^Lovely, lovely use of oil pastels. I like how there are portions scraped away to accentuate the blue paper underneath. Lots of detail in this picture, and a lot of expression. I like the colors, too-- this helps make it so expressive. Lots of good technique here.

Yes, a good picture can be achieved even without photoshop. :) This is a good example of that-- there are lots of tones and values in this picture. Nice highlights and shadows. And again, it's not just a "sit and stare in front of me" picture, either. Sasuke-dear is leaning, and reaching out. Very nice. :)

...I'm thinking about writing up a story I wrote last year. It's not finished. But, it's about Itachi...and how he was molested and its affects on his [and his brother's] life. ...I have an outline. ^_^

I'm also thinking about writing the rest of the Kakashi Talks to Sasuke story...only rewriting the beginning. And then moving on to Kakashi trying to get more out of Sasuke. And explaining Sasuke's troubled past.

And then there's a random idea (that probably goes along with the Kakashi Tries to Talk to Sasuke story) about Sasuke being badly beaten up and wandering to his teacher's house. I'm thinking Itachi would be in it...probably he or Fugaku would beat Sasuke up. And Sasuke would be pathetic and go right back to his father/or brother's arms. Angst.

Yeah. My ideas all suck. ^_^

Okay, so it sounds like I'm just lazy.

But I'm also feeling glum/depressed. Gah. Anxious. Can't calm down....waaaaah.

I wanna go read some book/fic about a kid who's severely traumatized/molested/abused and watch them suffer. And then get helped by well-meaning adults who usually just make things worse. And then watch the kid go to therapy that takes years to make any significant progress. And watch the little kid try to make friends with normal kids.

Sounds like my life.
